Is there any future for Shop Floor Workbench on an i-device? Is there any interest in this from anyone else?

stay tuned

Hi Hal,

We will be making an announcement on this general topic later this month. But can you talk about the kind of functionality you're looking for, i.e. just clock in/out on screen, or are you thinking about scanning bar codes?

iDevice Functionality

Hi Hal,

We have been interested in integrating the shopfloor workbench into iTuple for awhile. iTuple already supports a barcode scanner (the Linea-Pro) for doing inventory countslips and, now, fixed asset management mobility, so adding support for scanning work order barcodes, etc. would be quite doable if there were interest.

idevice

Seriously delayed response but I would like to see idevice that could clock in/out to routing/work-orders and post as necessary. "Scanning" the barcode would be nice but only if something could be done with the camera on the device.

Scanning bar codes through

Scanning bar codes through the device could be a great idea, it would expedite the entire process and would become much more simpler.

Scanning

Well, we are working on a couple major enhancements to iTuple.  Among the new features are shipping, inventory, and shopfloor workbench support.  We rely on the Infinite Peripherals LInea-Pro and the Honeywell Captuvo scanners to scan barcodes.  Positioning the camera to scan a barcode is a pain - we think that the scanners offered on the Infinite Peripherals and Honeywell devices are much quicker and easier to use.  Each of these additional features must be enabled by a package installed on your xTuple instance.

I think this is great, for

I think this is great, for start there is a limitation of using infinite and honeywell but I think later on other vendors will also brace themselves to make the desired improvement in their products because this is going to be the future.
