I normally tell people:
1) xxx means contains xxx anywhere in the string
That is 99 % of what most (normal) people want do do so a widget that supports those simple examples would show well. I don't know if a combo box could be constructed with those four options as a drop down list where after selecting from the drop down list you simply enter the string. Oh, and the fifth option would be our normal Regex pattern as it exists today.
