System setup / Cannot read encrypted information from database
After I click System setup
I have on screen message box:
"Error read configuration" including text:
"Cannot read encrypted information from database"
After I press "OK" setup window opens normally.
After I look in Configure / Encryption I have same message box. Why?
you need to create a small text file - doesn't need to be anything special, I use xtuple.key - and you need to fill in the file name and the location of the file in the setup screen.
Log out, log back in.
hi dkmeans,
i have the same problem. i did what you wrote but still having the same problem. i created the file xtuple.key and i put it in the c:/programfiles/xtuple/client and changed windows location as c:/programfiles/xtuple/client on the setup screen. nothing has changed. still having the same error message. i am a new user and i need some help. my xtuple version is ERP:postbooks edition.
thanks in advance.

If you're on a windows machine, that path can't be correct - it'd have
to be more complex like "C:\Program Files\Xtuple\" along those
lines...what we did to solve the issue was to make a generic C:\xtuple
folder and put it there -no funny spaces, no quotes, nada. Use a real
text editor - not wordpad or whatever comes with windows theses days,
those tend to make non-pure text files. Something like Crimson Editor
http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ works great.
Has to be a folder available to whomever is on the machine.
On our mac clients, we made an Xtuple folder in the applications
directory same reason, same file.

thank you for your quick response dkmeans. i cant be succesfull in applying your description. may be a small mistak i make. let me tell what i did. i installed the xtuple in the folder "C:\Program Files\Xtuple\". then i created the folder "C:\xtuple" and put the file "xtuple.key" which i created by crimsoneditor. the file is a key file, is a key file also a text file?
thanks
kiziltan
Yes, the key file is just some mix of text and numbers, with a carriage
return at the end (drop to a 2nd line)....but anything will work, it's
the seed to the local key.... our is named xtuple.key just to keep clear
on it.

Hi dkmeans
It works. Thank you.
There is lot of differences between Reference quide 3.6.0 and real life with postBooks 3.6.0.
Is the manual for other version of program?
Well, 3.6x has only been out since the end of December, and it was a big jump up to the new desktop interface - so I"m only guessing that you're seeing remnants of the older releases.
Xtuple's usually a little behind on the docs after release, so keep an eye out.
The Reference Guide is up to date for 3.6.0. I'd be curious to know what in particular Muilu is seeing, and what is meant by "real life."
Hi
My real life is what I see on my screen.
For example In "Item"-window: There is not tab "Site" but there is tab "Project" instead it.
"Copy Item" window has only 2 check box: "Copy Item Costs" and "Copy Bill of Materials"
Yes, well, there are minor changes to screen layout from time to time, and it's true that we don't re-shoot every one of the hundreds of screenshots each time. There are also variations depending on the Edition of the software used, and what add-on Packages you have installed.
In the particular case you mention, the Site tab was considered redundant with the Inventory button, and hence removed.
The Project tab is added by the optional Time and Expense package.
The additional options in the Copy Item screen in the screenshot are only available in the Manufacturing Edition, as they refer to the definition of Operations.
Correction, actually the Site tab is only available in commercial Editions as well, when multiple Sites are enabled. So the documentation is actually completely up to date.

I'm also on OSX 10.7 and I'm having the same issue. I have setup the DB on another server, and downloaded the client. So in my applications folder I just have xTuple.app(Yes I renamed xtuple.app to xTuple.app). Could anyone help?
Thanks, I hope to get the Enterprise soon, if I can get it to work. I like the setup. Although I would have preferred a MySQL db.
Hi, allpluscomputers:
Were you able to follow the instructions mentioned in previous posts regarding the key file? It sounds like that's what you're missing. Here's a link to the Reference Guide documentation on this:
