Why a new user called Postgres is automatically created in my Mac running snow leopard?
I recently installed Xtuple Postbooks in my mac running Snowleopard. The installation is very easy and all is running ok, but now, when I start my mac, a new user called Postgres appears in the log in window; a user I can't access so I have not the password. What happens with this user? I will need in the future the password to access this user for setup options?.
Thank you very much.
The user is only for the postgresql server, and "owns" all the files and data. It's a sort of "special" account that has to be there to run postgresql. It doesn't hurt anything.
Hi dkmeans,
My Mac didn't set up a new user, and so xTuple would not run. Can you suggest how to get it to set up this account?
Wally gave you the un-install link! To setup a user, just setup an account on your System Preferences panel, and give it a password.
This is an "ordinary" user - NOT an administrator account.
If it bugs you to see that account at login, there's some command line tricks to hide the user account from login...
You have to do the same thing to setup Postgresql 8.x on Lion - the new security systems don't like installers setting up hidden users...
