MRP Glitch?

MRP Glitch

We are on 3.3.1

We are using sales order demand to drive supply orders.

We are not creating work orders from the sales order.

We are trying to build orders inside lead time.

MRP is run.

The Planned Orders screen is working fine. It tells us, we should have started yesterday.

We release the work orders.

Next day after MRP

We get new planned orders. We think the mrp process is trying to tell us to expedite and that is using the new planned order for that purpose.

We would rather see an expedite or reschedule notice rather than getting new suggested orders.

MRP problem

l
I too have a client reporting odd behavior of MRP.

Description:

Purchased Item

Re-Order Level: 20
Re-Order Up To: 30
Minimum: 0
Maximum: 0
Multiple: 0

Safety Stock: 0
Group Planned Orders Every: 0
Lead Time: 60

First Group: Unchecked

There is an existing posted(released) Purchase order for 50 with a due date of 04-09-2010.

MRP is run and suggests a planned order of 43 to be created.

Doesn't seem right to me as there is an existing Purchase Order due within the lead time.

Changed the First Group box to Checked. Re=ran MRP, deleting existing planned orders and no Planned Purchas Order created, just as I expected on the first run.

Since I am still not clear on exactly the impact of the First Group check box, I thought I would do some more testing.

I increased the Order Up To to 100 and left the First Group Box checked.

I expected to get a planned Purchase order for 63. The existing Purchase providing 50 and a planned order going from from -13 to 50 for a total ordered of 100 which is now the Order Up To qty. Instead there were no planned orders created. None at all which doesn't seem right to me.

I then unchecked the First Goup box, left the Order Up To at 100 and re-ran MRP. This time I got a planned order of 113, ignoring the Purchase Order due within the lead time, just as happened the first time.

I have been mistakenly under the impression the if Group Planned Orders Every (days) was set to 0 then the First Group box had no impact, which now it appears is not the case.

Perhaps we all need some additional training on how these grouping paramaters should work.

Also on version 3.3.1

Exception Expediting

Is there a solution to telling MPS and MRP to expedite within the planning fence instead of creating new orders or to only create planned orders after you expedite first.
