Connection to specified server - too much to hope that this would work first time!
Just downloaded the free version after watching all the videos and thinking 'this it it, the program I need' only to fail to even kick off:
'connection to specified xtuple erp server cannot be made'
As I have done NOTHING other than installed and done what was asked of me, yet again let down by perhaps too complex a product for us mere (non-IT) mortals?
Why is it so difficult to get systems that just work????
Thanks,
DH
Hi, DH:
A couple of questions: Were you using one of the 3.2.2 installers? And which operating system are you installing on?
Regards,
Pierce
PT,
I am using 10.6.4 OS X Mac. My system went down due to a windows issue on Parallel so I used the system disk and re-did my Mac to new state. Then installed Parallels and Solid Works for Windows etc. Also installed the Xtuple 3.4 by copying it from my wife's unit to mine. That did not work so i downloaded it fresh. Did not use any installer.
Hi Pierce,
Thanks for prompt reponse.
Yes - 3.2.2 - deleted program, and tried again after installing additional server download - the ones recommended (database software) as recommended, but I thought this was all contained within the one simple install? Im using vista.
Didnt work - same result.
Thanks
D
David - just to be clear, you installed the 3.2.2 installer on Windows Vista, and did install a local copy of the PostgreSQL database server.
Which of the xTuple databases (demo, quickstart, empty) did you install?
What information did you enter at login? (username, password on the main screen; server, database, and port behind the Options button)
Did you check "log in to registered xTuple demo account" or "log in to server I specify"?
Hi Ned,
At first loaded up 3.2.2 without the PostgreSQL server, and set up ALL databases. Then deleted wholly when login using both demo and 'server I specify' didnt work. Reinstalled both and just checked the empty database, and tried login again, nothing happening.
Arghh!!
Thanks guys,
D
And what about the connection info? (server, port, db name, username, password)

Guys, should I just delete all and start again, with new usename and pw (not a great idea, since too many username and pw cause one huge headaches!)
Im just wanting to get cracking on a simple, small business set up using an empty DB. Watched most of the videos and operationally, it all makes sense.

Hi David,
I am having the same experience on Vista. Did you get it to work?
J
P,S. I reinstalled it works now!
Gents, I am away home to Scotland for a week, and if ok with you, will pick this up upon my return. Thanks for your help so far!
DH
Pierce,
I too am having the same problem with installing the software on Vista with the 3.2.2 installer. I screen printed the error message and would love to shoot it your way if it will provide insight. I won't attach it here as it includes my password.
Thanks,
TH

my apologies, this was sent twice
I spent some time on this issue with a couple of users and discovered something in common with both. Both had prior installs of other Open Source solutions on their computer, prior to installing PostBooks. In both cases the the other product also installed an instance of PostgreSQL. It appears the two installations of Postgres are conflicting, and preventing the PostBooks installer from finishing the install. If you are done for the moment evaluating the other Postgres-powered application, try Uninstalling it, and then running the PostBooks installer again.
Wally I am getting what I believe to be the same error message in this message stream. I can run PgAdmin but not the Xtuple. It seems that it does not even try to access the server.
IP address and passwords are all correct. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and I cannot find a solution. I am in Asia using a broadband thumb drive USB but it worked before I had to redo my hard drive and reload things.

For what it's worth I have successfully installed on Linux AND XP SP3 and evaluated. Yes, this is the baby.
Fondling over now, How do I have the POSTgres on a SSD that will be read by the Xtuple on the windows machine (a big beast that has two screens ) and be read by the Linux netbook which is the ideal toy when on the road.
The reason for the SSD is that it will have ALL the relevant files the Xtuple uses in notes (pics, DCN's, etc) and be the "core". I haven't quite figured out how to do this yet! BTW I am not a programmer either - just an experienced ERP user (SAP, Syteline)
i have install xtuple ERP on my computer for testing and most probably use it for my business. but the problem is after installation completed, when i try to log-in one appear but can not understand it. probably it is about server setting . please help me.
thank you.

Hi,
I have a big problem accessing the postbooks database installed in our server from the client computers.
The IP address & passwords are ok but it cannot connect with the server!
We have tried everything to connect xtuple postbooks to our server machine from the client computers to no success. It is perfectly running at the server.
We were planning to buy the manufacturing edition after a successful installation of the free edition.
unluckily, this is our main setback!!! - (Postgres database connectivity)
Can someone urgently assist before we give up????
Please assist.
