Setting up the local postgresql database for pc use [CLOSED]
I was following the instructions on this site: http://www.xtuple.org/node/3465. When I wanted a new server instance, because the one installed refuses connection, it gives me this error: password authentication failed for user postgres.
The earlier server that was installed when the software was installed has postgres as its name. is that the reason? I cannot even modify that server's properties because they are locked.

Yes, you would need to uninstall postgres, delete the postgres user and stop the service, then reinstall postgres. I recommend signing up for a FREE TRIAL of xTuple to evaluate the commercial editions of xTuple and PostBooks hosted in the cloud to avoid al these database administration headaches.

already installed into the cloud
I already have installed into the cloud and started using it, but need to have one on my local pc also. Networking costs and other considerations my end. I do hope you do understand. maybe when I become proficient in it, i can convince a financier to bankroll the purchase. thanks

problems are now with login
i decided to use the pre-configured server instance. ran the init.sql script and then restored the demo and empty databases. For now, I am having problems logging in. the system keeps giving authentication errors.
password: password used to log onto the postgresql server through pgAdmin
database: empty or demo/quickstart.
respond: password authentication failed for user: "localhost". QPSQL: unable to connect.

Let me uninstall postgresql and start all over again. I have two postgresql servers sitting on pgAdmin: 9.1 and 9.2. I found this: http://www.xtuple.org/InstallingTheDatabase#UsingpgAdminToGetStarted. thanks a million, schurch.

yap. new messages
yeah, I uninstalled both 9.1 and 9.2 completely, and then reinstalled 9.1. I am now getting a completely new set of messages. I think something connected to login.
ERROR: function login(boolean) does not exist.
LINE 1: SELECT login(true) As result CURRENT_USER AS user;
there is a caret on SELECT
Hint: No function matches the given name and argument types. You might need to add explicit type casts.
That means I need to add some other parameters to the demo and quickstart databases to log on?
please, do help me!

anything I did not do?
I have xtrole user role. I have admin user too through an init.sql file.
I have created the demo, quickstart and empty databases.
What bothers me though, why I have not solved the problem yet is that the databases might not be for 4.0.5, the version of xtuple client I have on my system. could that be a reason? will restore the databases this evening. if not, what could?
i think i want to be a long time user of xtuple erp. i have tried out the trial databases for some hours and fell in love with it.
