Is it possible to import inventory and customer data from EXCEL and/or an old version of Peachtree?
Yes you can import out of an excel file. You will need the CSVimp file from Source forge and you will have to map the fields and it will go right in.
Thank you
Certainly possible to import inventory using CSVimport BUT. . be careful of the error msgs as they are not the easiest to work out!!
Haven't done customer data yet but that is probably easy.
The BOM is proving VERY difficult to import!
I know this is an old post but I thought I'd add to it as well as ask a question if I can. I've been able to import the inventory from a DOS version of peach tree using CSVimp. But understand this is a two step process... you'll also need to import the inventory items (what you have to do first).... TWICE. When you import using the items view.... this does not create an "item site".... which is part of what seems to be needed to have the inventory parts function correctly in the system. I'm about to reimport all the part numbers with the "Item Site View" in the selection of api table especially made for importing data in CSVimp. After that I will be importing the BOMs..... but... also know that you'll most likely need to go through all your part numbers and change the part numbers that are actually items you manufacture... while the remainder are items used to manufacture your products. At least this is how it works in the company I work for during the day.
Also note... you may actually spend more time cleaning up the data before you can import. it literally took me days to go through and try best I could to clean up the Lotus file I was able to export from peach tree PDQ (peach tree data query). I recently upgraded all my macs to 10.7 which killed the old version of office I have.... for an interim solution I used Open Office which works surprisingly well. Anyway, depending on if you're exporting data from an old DOS version of PT like I am... you system may have had lots of different users with lots of different ideas about how they're supposed to enter data into the system. So... you end up with address, contact, or whatever kind of data in one field for one company(vendor info).... or part description all over.... (inventory items). The import itself it pretty straight forward... just make a point of going through your entire spreadsheet to remove duplicates.... and put everything in the right row. It's a PIA.... but will insure your import is worth while.
So... once the secondary item sites have been created... and I've got my BOM's imported.... I need to import quantity and pricing information. This is where I'm hitting a wall. I've been slowly going through all the table fields in the views used for importing... Ive also been using a program called RazorSQL to search the public tables .... searching for the qty (QOH) and pricing data. Can anyone help me here? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Or is this info pulled off a Purchase order table.... and always referenced via that route. So.... to import my existing inventory I'm going to need to basically create a purchase order for the final import?
Thanks in advanced if anyone can give me any pointers here.
Jeffrey
