QuickBooks Migration

Overview

There has been growing interest (in the xTuple QuickBooks Migration forum and elsewhere) concerning the need to develop methods for migrating data from QuickBooks to xTuple ERP. This wiki page was created to begin the process of documenting that migration process.

Initial Steps

What is the initial information we need to gather?

Quickbooks Migration

I'm a new user considering switching from Quickbooks. Although I could probably start fresh and I don't want to spend much effort, I would prefer to migrate my Quickbooks files. Are there any utilities to accomplish this with specific instructions for Quickbooks? I'm a power user running Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

At best, you can create

At best, you can create reports exported to either excel or csv format in Quickbooks, and then after they've been properly formatted / cleaned up you can import via the importer tool.

Most clients are getting rid of quickbooks because it's so loose, so flexible, so lacking in fundamental rules, they have very, very, questionable data.

At best customers, vendors, inventory items are very importable - if you know what to do with each program and how to configure your import files.
